Name.com to Launch wiki.name.com

Download this press release as an Adobe PDF document.

Name.com announces the launch of a names-based encyclopedia at wiki.name.com.Denver, CO (PRWEB) May 27, 2008 — Name.com, the ICANN-accredited domain registrar headquartered here, announced today the launch of a unique names-based encyclopedia at wiki.name.com.Wiki.name.com, under development by Name.com, LLC since February 2008, aspires to become “the” name encyclopedia on the Internet. Unlike other online name resources, the wiki boasts extensive information categories for each name, including etymology, origin, popularity, facts, similar names and famous persons. Name enthusiasts, including expectant parents and closet name nerds, will be able to relish in the fascinating connotations, history and affiliations of each name.

“I imagine having an article for every name on the planet,” says Name.com, LLC founder and CEO Bill Mushkin. “All names are dynamic and rich with meaning. For example, think about a domain name: it’s a simple placeholder that represents a unique starting point on the Internet.”

Name.com, an innovative and young company, is the first registrar to create a wiki site. By developing the site on MediaWiki software, Name.com offers interactive access for Internet users to learn and contribute. The content on wiki.name.com will thus be responsive to trends, providing diverse collaborative information and enjoying sustainable growth.

Name.com is a privately held ICANN accredited registrar offering over 50 different gTLD and ccTLD extensions as well as aftermarket domain brokerage, brand management and consulting services. Name.com is headquartered at 125 Rampart Way, Suite 300 Denver, CO 80230. The telephone number is 720-249-2374.

Well, what a week for me in domaining.

First, Ebay announced there getting rid of Instant digital delivery products. I make all my ebay money from a passive eBay stream just from that, My user name “was” digital-delivery-shop for crying out load. new name “domains_websites

Then they are now making ebay Australia paypal only apart for motors, houses and services.

That’s cool with me too, I love paypal and can leverage the exchange rate with ease.

Anyway, I found a few really nice Parking page designs that are easy to adjust and work a  treat.

www.domainnameparking.com.au/seo

is an example.

I will have to hand upload for the moment, But i have a PHP for idiots coming and will make all the database and text boxes etc, myself.

If you would like to be one of the first to join please leave a comment and i will load you onto the server and get you started in a flash. I will also be introducing video feeds, So my parking will be one of the first globally with it.

Night

Phillip

The biggest news in domaining , in Australia. for ever..

You can sell your dot.com.au domain name right here, and its free,,

Auction or set price. Plus parking if needed! and the cheapest Australian Domain Registration in the country.

Starting on the 1st of June 2008 we can trade our dot.com.au domains.

i am firstly concerned about the fact registrars can charge for transfer of an Australian dot.com.au, Domain Name. icann.org don’t allow it, so why should the Australian model differ? crazy stuff and very non competitive.

other changes that jumped up at me. a 6 month wait to sell a dot.com.au

normally 3 months with other domains. so thats not too bad. I will just develop every domain i buy then..

“this does not apply to domain names that have been renewed or previously transferred”

or is already over 6 mths old, i would say!

(GREY AREA) for me at least. your not allowed to buy an Australian domain name, just to resell it, before the 6 months is up at least. , so, dont list it for sale anywhere, before 6 months is what there saying?

and im sure the domain can only go to an ABN holder.

it is awesome we can trade in our own domains.\ and about time,

The new registrant transfers policy will take effect on 1 June 2008.

In December 2007, the auDA Board approved a recommendation from the 2007 Names Policy Panel that the registrant transfers policy be relaxed to allow a registrant to transfer their domain name licence to another eligible entity, for any reason.

Key features of the new policy are as follows:

  • it will not be allowable to register a domain name for the sole purpose of resale or transfer to a third party
  • registrants will not be able to transfer their domain name for the first 6 months after the initial registration (this does not apply to domain names that have been renewed or previously transferred)
  • after 6 months, registrants will be able to offer their domain name for sale/transfer by any means (eg. by listing the domain name for sale on a domain brokerage website, advertising the domain name for sale in a newspaper, or contacting a prospective buyer directly)
  • the new registrant must comply with normal eligibility and allocation rules
registrant transfers will be processed by the registrar of record using a standard transfer form, and the registrar may charge a transfer fee
  • parties to a transfer will be asked to disclose the sale method and price, on a voluntary and confidential basis, so that auDA may collect aggregated statistical data to improve access to market information for buyers and sellers.

Until the new policy takes effect on 1 June 2008, the current Transfers (Change of Registrant) Policy (2004-03) continues to apply. auDA will continue to investigate complaints about transfers that breach this policy.

Lets start getting serious about Domaining. We need special prices to make us competitive.

i hunt domain registrars that offer good service and great pricing. Namecheap.com have very good customer service, But another name has better pricing, WAY BETTER,, www.name.com

namecheap.com coupon may 2008 - mayflowers - isnt working, and its only May, 20th, ( sic) its the 19th in Australia), Get serious guys, seriously. your slow.

Its all about cost cutting, Service and Trust. The fractions of profit in domaining are very tight, so if you start out the best, with the best price, you stand a much better chance of surviving.

And, as they put up prices, we domainers need to adjust,

Anyway, this week, well, today actually,, i picked up 60 odd domains on ebay for AU$14.00 with a month to go. All parked. I should find at least one worth keeping. and sell the rest. I can then transfer the good ones to a new registrar and save a dollar or so there as well. They normally offer a better price on transfers, and accoring to ICANN rules, they cant charge you a cent to do it. Good advice, (thanks, icann.org) that will save you in the long run

Plus,, i grabbed,

TYCOON.NET.AU

I will be selling this domain in a month or so. Depending on Traffic of course.. and after the Australian Domain Name industry starts TRADING.

Im also about to start an Australian domain Auction. Free of course, so if your interested, let me know.

its under 7 weeks away,,

Namecheap coupon MAY 2008 ——- ” MAYFLOWERS ” ——-

or use www.name.com

Sedoparking Statistics 2008 MayI am just in the process of setting up a new “Free Domain parking company

I have looked at a host of domain parking scripts. And used just about every company available to compare. I will use open source and some commercial and some of my own coding to produce something that is both easy to manage, and offer more than say domainsponsor.com or sedo.com, with awesome landers built for CTR.

Getting advertiser feeds will be the next challenge. I have over 1000 domains now and average 15000 visits a month so its a good start and a few other bigger domain holders will only help. Perhaps each holder can cross promote there own businesses to get it all started.

Anyway, for the time being, i am holding the majority of my domains with

www.sedo.com

Above is a shot of my domain name management panel
